Adele Stretch . . . going the extra mile

GOING the extra mile is second nature to housing support officer Adele Stretch.

The 44-year-old, who works at AKSA Housing, thinks she is just doing her job.

But the trio of grateful customers who nominated her for a Pride in Oldham Award think differently.

Adele, who has worked at the Oldham-based company for seven years, helps people to find a place to live.

But she also strives to encourage and motivate her charges to go on to bigger and better things.

The mother-of-one said: “I help people who are homeless to find somewhere to live and I help people who are being harassed in their current home to work through their problems or help them find alternative accommodation.

“I also help people with drink and drugs problems to get their lives back on track as well as sorting out what benefits they are entitled to.

“I recently helped a woman get custody of her children and then encouraged her to go back to college so she could get a job and secure her future.

“It is all about empowering people and giving them the confidence to improve their situation themselves.”

Ryan Crowe, Amina Stihi and Kaye Williamson, who nominated Adele, said she was “one in a million who deserves a crown” and is “a blessing to know”.

Adele, who lives in Rochdale, said: “I am really proud to be nominated for a Pride in Oldham Award.

“It is nice that people have taken the time out to recognise what I have done. I am really pleased.”
