Oldham students' bursary opportunity at 'outstanding' MHSG

A bursary opportunity has been announced once again at Manchester High School for Girls, specifically for students from Oldham.

MHSG is one of the leading independent girls’ schools in the country, providing an outstanding educational experience for four to 18-year-olds and students consistently perform at an exceptional level.

Based in Fallowfield, the school is a selective, non-denominational, academic independent day school, with charitable status, founded in 1874.

All three of Emmeline Pankhurst’s daughters were educated there.

The Peggy Adler Transformative Bursaries, which the school is delighted to offer, will be available once again for students entering Year 7 in September 2024.

Funded by a generous gift to the school in memory of proud Oldhamer, Peggy Adler, the fund will provide financial assistance to girls from the Oldham area – including Chadderton, Royton, Shaw and Lees – leaving a lasting legacy.

There will be five fully-funded Senior School places available: one each year for the next five years, but this could be extended and applicants from Sixth Form may also be considered.

Students must have a home address in the Oldham area to apply and the family income must meet the school’s standard criteria.

Students will be assessed academically in line with our standard admissions process.

The school has specifically laid on a brand new, private bus service, running Oldham and MHSG’s gates daily, with convenient stops for families in the area.

Head Mistress, Mrs Helen Jeys, said: “MHSG has been empowering girls since 1874 and we are proud to have educated so many world-changing women.

"We are equally excited by what future Peggy Adler bursary girls will go on to achieve.

"The bursaries are entirely in line with our ethos and founding principles, welcoming bright girls into the school community, regardless of their financial means.”

The school’s next open events are the Senior School Open Evening, next Thursday (October 12, 6pm-8.30pm) and the Whole School Open Morning, Saturday, November 11 (9.30am-12.30pm).
