The tiny Oldham Golf Club ladies section team have done superbly to reach finals day of the massive MDGLA Bell Cup, the biggest KO competition of its kind in the region.

They have continued their success in the Lancashire County LLGCA South East Division.

They played at Dean Wood and beat Bolton Lostock in the morning, while local rivals Brookdale beat Rochdale.

In the afternoon they beat Brookdale and are now the South East handicap champions and play in the grand finals day Dunscar GC.

The ever-busy Oldham Gems played the sixth round of the Brian Radcliffe Trophy and it was a good day for Peter Schofield, who led in with 15 from John Billington and Geoff Allan, both 24.

Peter also won the team competition combining with Keith Jackson and John Billington for a winning haul of 40.

A Texas Scramble for the Gems had the trusty trio of Brian Spary, Brian Best and Vic Brown ruling the roost with 39.00 from Dave Taylor, Stuart Wagstaffe and John Wood 39.25.

There's been plenty of action at Saddleworth with a Pro’s Stableford seeing the divisions won by Bryn Parfitt after a cpo from Jordan Taylor, Graham Harrop and William Coleman, all 41.

The first round of the ‘major’ President’s Prize saw David Chapman setting the early pace with 68 from Mark Abbott 69 and Iain Cash, Mark Orme, Gary Simpson and Ben Chadderton, all 70.

It was also ‘major’ time for Saddleworth ladies as they played for Mr President’s Prize.

Jane Wild led in round one with 68, three less than Debbie Cockburn and Louise Hinchliffe and in round two Pam Taylor won a cpo on 76 from Louise Hinchliffe with Jean Dervan on 77.

The overall winner was Louise Hinchliffe 147, from Debbie Cockburn 148 and Pam Taylor 149.

An Open BB Stableford at Saddleworth had home pair Darren Neary and Liz Pugh on top with 46, from Mark Haynes and Robert Hartley (Howley Hal), who won a cpo on 44 from Roger Devy and Les Thompson (Saddleworth) and Keith Wright and Andrew Whitfield (Halifax Bradley Hall).
