Roundthorn Primary Academy shines in latest Ofsted report

Date published: 08 February 2024

Roundthorn Primary Academy in Oldham has recently celebrated another positive Ofsted report, which notes that the school encourages pupils to ‘flourish’ and that the ‘school expects the best from them, both academically and in preparation for life’.

Following the Ofsted inspection, the school achieved an overall judgement of “Good,” with the effectiveness of Personal Development recognised as “Outstanding,” a fantastic achievement and a testament to the dedication and commitment of the entire school community, including pupils, parents, staff, and governors.

According to the report, pupils arrive at school ‘happy and keen to learn’ and are ‘polite and welcoming towards visitors.’

The assessment took place last December and was published in February of this year, which can be read on the Ofsted website.

To support pupils and their development, the school provides an exceptional programme that includes exciting trips, visiting speakers, and opportunities to take on leadership responsibilities, such as being a ‘friend of Roundthorn.’

Additionally, the report outlines that the school seizes every opportunity to ‘help prepare pupils for life in modern Britain’ and encourage them to ‘challenge stereotypes’, celebrating ‘the differences between people across a range of cultures, faiths, and backgrounds.’

John Taylor, Executive Principal at Roundthorn Primary Academy, said: “We are thrilled that this report recognises the exceptional and outstanding features of Roundthorn as well as capturing the strong culture of high expectations that exists against a backdrop of continuous improvement.

“The staff team have worked tirelessly over many years to bring the very best in primary education to the children of Roundthorn and with the support of Focus Trust, governors and families, we continue to do this every day.

"Roundthorn is a special place to come to work and a special place for children to learn.”

Roundthorn Primary Academy forms part of Focus-Trust, a charitable primary school trust based in the North West of England and West Yorkshire that aims to provide great schools at the heart of communities where children thrive, achieve, and succeed.
