Waterhead Academy students complete St John Ambulance cadet course

The first cohort of Waterhead Academy St John Ambulance NHS Cadets have successfully completed the nationally recognised Level 1 course for 14-16 year olds.

A total of 32 year 10 students from the Academy successfully achieved the qualification during the inaugural year.

The Foundation Pathway equips young people with a range of emergency first aid skills that are taught both as practical and theoretical components.

Furthermore, the cadets undertake modules which develop transferable skills in areas such as compassionate leadership, effective communication, and healthy teamwork.

The programme aims to build confidence and broaden horizons, informing young people how they can volunteer and access careers within the healthcare profession.

The Academy has become of one of the first school’s nationally to deliver the programme and establish its very own Academy-based NHS Cadet Unit.

Mr Wilson, Assistant Principal for Personal Development, said: "The NHS Cadet programme is a fantastic initiative that has further contributed to the wide range of enrichment and careers initiatives that are available to students to participate in at our Academy.

"To become one of the first school’s in the country to deliver the NHS Cadet programme and to establish an official NHS Cadet Unit is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the fantastic range of opportunities that are available to our students."
