Laura can't wait for her big virtual gig tomorrow night!

Date published: 22 January 2021

Are you ready for a good old virtual sing-song tomorrow night?

If so, then why not join Failsworth-based wedding singer and musician Laura Mac – real name Laura Purdey – for her live ‘gig’ on Facebook?

Laura, who is 40 now but has been singing since the age of 16, will be singing some good old pop songs from 8.15pm tomorrow (Saturday) in a bid to lift her own spirits and those of as many people as she can possibly reach on the social platform.

Laura said: “This last year has been so tough on myself and all artists and musicians around the world - it’s been a very scary year financially.

“Luckily, I work at Oldham College during the week and they have been so supportive and have given me the strength to continue in these scary times.

“I only work part time at the College (I am the Grange Theatre manager) and then I sing at weekends.

“So, as our theatre has not been able to open, which is another story in itself, I work helping the students, and the college have offered me extra work when they can.

“They have really been amazing.

“I would have really struggled otherwise, mentally and financially, as losing half my income has been such a strain on us, that’s my husband Jonathon, son Zac and daughter Jessica.

“I know I am one of the lucky ones because I have a job, but I have many singer friends who have lost everything.”

Gary Barlow-inspired Laura, who even formed a temporary street band during last summer and performed for all the neighbours, added: “I miss singing so much, it’s not only my job, but my passion.

“I am so much looking forward to performing live on Saturday night on Facebook!

“One lady commented on my post to say it was so nice to give her something to look forward to.

“This is exactly why I am doing it and hope that it can put a smile on people’s faces and they can have a sing and a dance with me.”
