The earthquake in Kashmir
On Tuesday (24th September) a 10km/6-mile earthquake devastated the surrounding areas of Mirpur city, in Kashmir.
HNCO (Hajjah Naziha Charitable Organisation) is a North West-based charity and is working with the Muslim Hands team in Pakistan to raise funds as part of an emergency relief project.
The charity stated that the true extent of the damage and the number of those who have been injured or lost their lives has yet to be confirmed.
Since the disaster yesterday, the death toll has continued to rise, and at time of print, the figure of men, women and children who have died is already suspected to be in the 30s.
Hundreds more are missing and injured.
It is believed that the situation ‘on the ground’ in Kashmir is far worse than we can ever imagine or understand, here in the UK.
Oldham East and Saddleworth's MP Debbie Abrahams said-
“This is a terrible event that will impact many families here in Oldham who have relatives in Azad Kashmir and the wider region.
“The details are coming in slowly but there are already reports of multiple deaths and many injuries and I offer my sincere condolences to everyone affected.
“If any constituents need help or support please contact my office on 0161 624 4248.”
