Thousands show interest in five Oldham housing developments

Date published: 21 March 2019

The landlord has ambitious plans to invest £150m to build 1,000 new homes by 2024 and has recently launched its first homes available for shared ownership via its new Fabric Living brand.

Last month Fabric Living launched with 10 new shared ownership homes at its Pavilion Green scheme in Royton. These modern three-bedroomed family homes will soon be joined by another 22 homes on its Keb Lane and Coleridge Road developments.

So far more than 350 people have expressed an interest in buying one of the properties and taking their first step on the property ladder – with the sale of Fabric Living’s first Shared Ownership home now completed.

FCHO has now launched its new Rent to Buy offer with 112 homes available across four developments at Pavilion Green, Royton, Keb Lane, Bardsley, Coleridge Road, Sholver and Acre Lane, Derker.

Rent to Buy allows tenants to rent a newly built home at approximately 20% below market rate for up to five years. During that time, tenants have the option to buy the property, or to buy part of the property under a Shared Ownership scheme.

More than 9,500 people have already declared an interest in renting the properties, including 1,000 people who declared an interest in renting six new properties on Keb Lane within the first 24 hours of them being advertised.

Elsewhere, FCHO is also seeing huge demand for new affordable rented properties. More than 1,180 people have registered their interest in just eight affordable rented homes at the Coleridge Road development and more than 4,500 have declared an interest in 10 homes at Hill Brow Close, Moorside.

Vinny Roche, Chief Executive at FCHO, said: “We know that demand for homes is vastly outstripping supply in the Oldham area.

“That is why we have launched Fabric Living to help bring much-needed developments forward with a wide variety of tenures to meet people’s needs.

“Shared Ownership and Rent to Buy homes help many more people access the housing ladder than could otherwise do so.

“We have some ambitious plans and are keen to bring forward more affordable homes for people living in the area.”

Aspiring home owners are invited to drop in to an open day where you can talk to a range of experts to see how Shared Ownership could work for you and how you could achieve your dream of homeownership. The event takes place on Saturday 23rd March, 10am- 4pm at First Choice Homes Oldham, First Place, 22 Union Street, Oldham, OL1 1BE.”
