Oldham's very own Sarah Lancashire is set to play a businesswoman turned politician in the latest BBC drama, MotherFatherSon.

The actress, who went to Oldham Hulme Grammar school, joins an all star cast including Pretty Woman actor Richard Gere.

The eight part series follows Max (played by Gere), a media tycoon, his estranged wife Kathryn (actress Helen McCrory) and their 30 year-old-son Caden (played Billy Howle).

Caden runs Max’s UK newspaper and is primed as the heir to his throne, but he enters a self-destructive spiral that threatens to topple the family’s empire.

Lancashire plays MP Angela Howard the Leader of the opposition.

The series will be directed by James Kent, who is best known for his 2014 WWI film A Testament of Youth, which starred Alicia Vikander and Game of Thrones’ Kit Harrington.

The first episode is due to be aired on BBC 2 on Wednesday 6th March 2019.
