Oldham Council advising on bin collection changes this Christmas

Date published: 10 December 2018

Oldham Council is informing residents with Tuesday and Wednesday bin collections that their dates will change over the Christmas period.

This year there will be no bin collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Instead all bins - including green bins and food caddies - due on Tuesday 25 December will be collected on Saturday 29 December.

Bins due for collection on Wednesday 26 December will this year be collected early on Saturday 22 December.

The council is asking anyone whose green bin and food caddy are due for collection on this date not put them out.

They will be emptied as normal on Wednesday 2 January.

Bins due on Tuesday 1 January will now be collected on Saturday 5 January - apart from green bins and food caddies which will be collected on Tuesday 8 January as normal.

Over the next few days, leaflets will be delivered to households in the areas affected and the council will also be sending out reminders via their social media channels.

If you are unsure which bin would have been due, you can check your collection calendar or use the online post code checker at: www.oldham.gov.uk/waste

If your collection day doesn’t fall on any of the above dates, then the council says to simply put your bins out as usual.

Councillor Arooj Shah, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, says: “Changes to collection days at Christmas are now the norm but we’d ask that you just take a minute to familiarise yourself with the arrangements.

“Our waste collectors work in all weathers all year round and deserve to enjoy the holidays with their families and friends, like most people get to do at this time of year.”
