A six-year old boy has been threatened with a hammer during a robbery in Oldham.

He and his father were walking to their car after leaving KFC on Huddersfield Road on Tuesday evening, when they were threatened by two men in masks.

Armed with a hammer, they demanded the man hand over his car keys.

Worried for his and his son’s safety, the man complied and the two men got in the vehicle and escaped.

Officers were called to the fast food chain at around 9.30pm on Tuesday.

The car was later recovered on Ribble Road in Oldham, several hours later.

A number of items, including the victim’s laptop, were stolen from the car – and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The men are described as white, between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall, and in their early 20s. They had their faces covered and were both wearing dark-coloured tracksuit bottoms and tops.

Det Serg Alex Wilkinson from GMP’s serious acquisitive crime team based at Oldham said: "This was an unprovoked attack on a father and his young child which has left them both terrified.

"I would like to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to identify those responsible for committing this violent crime.

"I would like to appeal for any witnesses to come forward who may have seen the incident take place, who saw anything suspicious in the area or who may have dashcam footage, to come forward."

Anyone has any information is asked to contact Oldham police station on 0161 856 4555, quoting log 2109 December 4. Reports can also be made via Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
