McNeill won the medal competition with a score of 77-11-66, while Mills recorded the best gross of 68.

The Mottram event (Northern qualifier) is on September 10, at which the leading 16 will go to the national final at Royal Birkdale in October.

At CROMPTON and ROYTON, home player James Webster teamed up with Peter Davies, of Werneth, to win the Invitation Day, a four-ball Betterball Stableford competition.

The duo clinched victory on a card play-off after recording 41 points.

Crompton and Royton’s Lee Conway and Barry Elliott, of Prestwich, were the runners-up.

DENISE Brown was all smiles after bagging the Lady Captain’s competition, a major prize at Saddleworth.

Recording rounds of 67 and 76 for a 143 total, she finished a shot clear of Kaye Orme’s 144 for the 36 holes (74 and 70).

Eileen Moores (85-18-67) won the first-day prize, while second-day honours went to Eileen Simpson (94-25-69).

AT BROOKDALE, Wendy Oliver trounced the field in the latest EGU medal.

She scored 85-26-59 for a stunning 10-shot victory over Angie Hunter, who posted 87-18-69.

Oliver’s win has cut four strokes from her handicap.

Zoe Styles, with a two-round total of 151, won the Mr Captain’s Prize at CROMPTON and ROYTON, from Margaret Hornby (153).

The first-day prize went to Margaret Bailey (72). Joan Booth (74) won the second-day competition after a card play-off with Margaret Hornby and Joanne Redford.

In the Lancashire Bronze Medal, Crompton and Royton lost 3-2 at Blackley. Jennifer Kenworthy (one up) and Brenda Keaney (two up) were victorious for the visitors.

And in the Lancashire Shield, wins by Brenda Bellis (2&1) and Jean Heathcote (2&1), and halves from Margaret Butterworth and Madge Millett, were in vain as Crompton and Royton lost 4-3 at Great Lever and Farnworth.
