JORDAN SLEW: the on-loan striker “can’t wait” for Monday’s clash against Sheffield Wednesday.
JORDAN Slew can’t wait to get stuck into the season at home — because the first game is one he wants to win more than any other.
Athletic’s new striker (19) comes on loan from Blackburn Rovers — who spent £1.1million on the highly-rated forward from Sheffield United less than a year ago.
Slew, a Blades man through-and-through, now wants to be let loose against city rivals Sheffield Wednesday in the home Capital One Cup, first-round tie on Monday.
“I was asking to get this deal through straight away so I can play in that one,” said the lightning-quick forward.
“I am buzzing for it and can’t wait.”
Manager Paul Dickov is enthusiastic about the powerful newcomer, who rose to prominence during the Blades’ superb run to the FA Youth Cup final two seasons ago.
“We are delighted to get him,” said Dickov. “Jordan was up there as probably my number one target this summer.”
Another reason for coming to Oldham was Athletic right-back Connor Brown, a good friend and former colleague in the Sheffeld under-18s side.
Blackburn have given Oldham permission tp play in any game — except against them.
