Baxter’s tribute to Goodison faithful

JOSE BAXTER: relishing the chance to play in front of Everton fans
JOSE Baxter doesn't play for Everton any more — but that doesn't mean he has cut the club out of his life.
The 21-year-old maestro still visits Goodison as often as he can.
The Bootle-born attacker is an Athletic player for the foreseeable future, having signed a new two-and-a-half year contract last month.
And he can't wait to run out in front of both sets of supporters on Saturday.
“You can never be 100-per-cent sure what kind of reception you are going to receive from supporters of your former club,” said former Goodison prodigy Baxter.
“But I left Goodison Park on good terms and I have been to a few of Everton’s home games to show my support for the lads. I love returning there.
“I love the club. When I see Everton fans crammed into Boundary Park I will clap them, because they were so supportive of me. I am looking forward to seeing them this weekend.”
If he gets the chance, Baxter shouldn't have too much trouble picking out recognisable faces in the Rochdale Road stand.
“Loads of my mates from Bootle and around Merseyside will be in with the away fans. It makes me smile to think they will be there - and obviously it’s another incentive to perform well.”
The pint-sized forward, who hopes to break a home goal duck stretching back to October, admitted preparations for the game have been difficult in the wake of Paul Dickov’s departure.
He said: “It’s always weird when your manager leaves. Tony Philliskirk and Paul Gerrard have been fantastic. We are all just trying to rally round and do what we can.”
